Solaris

About the grape

"Solaris is a green grape variety used for the production of wine, especially in cool climates. As it is a winter-hardy grape variety, it is common in several northern European countries. Solaris produces wines with fruity and perfumed aromas with notes of muscat, and has a medium acidity level .

Solaris was created in 1975 at a grape breeding facility in Freiburg, Germany, by crossing the grape variety Merzling with Gm 6493. Merzling is in turn a cross of Seyvevillard 5276 and another cross of Riesling and Pinot Gris. Gm 6493 is a cross of Zarya Severa and Muscat Ottonel.Solaris was the result of a breeding program aimed at developing disease-resistant grape varieties, and it has good resistance to fungal attack. The grape is also winter hardy, which has made it popular in several northern European countries."

We grow Solaris at Sydkustens at Pillehill.
