Rondo
The grape
"Rondo is a blue grape variety used for the production of wine, especially in cool climates. It ripens very early and has a very good resistance to winter frost. This makes it common in northern Europe, where classic grapes often ripen too late. The grape is suitable good for red wine as well as rosé. Rondo is a hybrid grape, rather than a purebred Vitis vinifera, as it has several hybrid grapes in its parent tree. It was created in 1964 by Professor V. Kraus in what was then Czechoslovakia by crossing the varieties Zarya Severa with Vitis amurensis in its pedigree) and Dr. Helmut Becker, active at the German Wine Research Institute, continued the work with the grape variety in Germany Rheinhessen and in many places in Northern Europe such as Denmark, England and the Netherlands in addition to Sweden." We grow Rondo here at Tullnäs.
